Human Cell Line Authentication Service

In light of the NIH's recommendation that all cell lines be authenticated before publication, we are offering a cell line authentication service

We recommend that investigators authenticate an early passage (1st week of culture) of their cells to establish the identity of the cell line. Cells should be authenticated again before freezing, once every two months that the culture is actively growing, and before publication. If using more than one cell line in the lab, all lines should be initially tested to rule out cross contamination.

Our full service authentication service includes:

  1. Mycoplasma testing: if samples are contaminated, testing will stop at this step and investigator will be charged $90. We prepare and ship your cell sample for DNA fluorochrome staining at Bionique Testing Laboratories, Inc. You will receive test results in 48 hours. (See protocol link for sample preparation before submiting them for testing). This service may not be used for clinical applications. Cells being tested should not be used for human/animal diagnostic or therapeutic use. Potential pathogens should be disclosed to the Cell Center personnel prior to processing. Sample prep instructions are available in the Cell Center protocols section.
  2. DNA isolation from cells.
  3. Identification testing of eight STR loci and amelogenin using the Promega PowerPlex 1.2 System.

SNP Karyotying

If you are interested in further analyzing your samples, samples can be karyotyped on one of Illumina's dense SNP arrays. These arrays allow for analysis of LOH and copy number, as well as chromosomal lose. They will not easily identify translocations.
